Anyone can visit the website and browse through event listings at their leisure. If you're a registered member, you can use special links on the events, "send me more events like this," that let you edit your preferences based on the events you see.

To browse the events listings, click the BROWSE topic at the top of the page. This will link you to a basic form that allows you to view the events in the system, and control what you see based upon how you set the following criteria:

• When – the timeframe that you're looking at, defined with a start date and end date. This currently defaults to one week.
  
• What – the type of events you're looking for, by category, subcategory, and sub-subcategory. As you will see, categories include distinct types of events, such as music, dance, photography, and so on.
  
  Subcategories and sub-subcategories offer increased refinements to the search. For example, the category labeled MUSIC has subcategories including ACOUSTIC that has sub-subcategories including BLUEGRASS. If you select only the category, your search will return all listings under that category. If you select down to the sub-subcategory level, your search will only return events matching that type. If your search returns no events for your criteria, you might want to deselect the finer distinction to check the next more general level of listings.
  
• Where – lets you select a specific venue or neighborhood to limit the events you see. Venues include clubs, bars, theaters, recital halls, etc. Selecting a specific venue will show only events happening at that venue. Selecting a neighborhood will return only events happening in that neighborhood.
  
• Who – Lets you focus in on a specific organization's events.

All of these criteria interact with each other. If you set the start date and end date to today, then select "South Side" as a neighborhood, you'll get only events on the South Side today. If you select the Warhol under "Who" and then Film under "What", you'll only see the Warhol's films. Their flexibility (which is good) means you can pretty easily set them in ways that produce no events at all. If you select the Warhol and then set the neighborhood to South Side, you won't get anything - the Warhol is on the North Side.
